For many Alabamians, child care costs more than the mortgage
In fact, Alabama has some of the least expensive child care in the nation, according to a recently-released report from the Institute for Women’s Policy Research. The annual cost of child care in a center for an infant, as a proportion of women’s median earnings, is lowest in Alabama – 16.8 percent.
So the statistics look good. But dig a little deeper – and talk to working Alabama parents – and the numbers aren’t necessarily as rosy as they seem.
